Manager's Message
The swimming area at the park is open. Bacteria counts are down to normal levels, and swimming has reopened. If you enjoy birding, you may have a good chance of seeing the red-cockaded woodpecker. Ochlockonee River is one of the few state parks that have a resident population of these endangered birds. Ochlockonee River also has white squirrels. These squirrels are not albinos. They are a gene mutation of the gray squirrel and are white as snow. This is an excellent time of the year to canoe our many rivers and creeks. This is the time of year that you can catch fresh and salt water fish within the park boundary. Spring can be a very busy time for our campground, so if you plan on camping with us please make your reservations in advance.
Most of the park was burned with prescribed fires in May and June 2008. These are the months that most natural fires occur. The flowers and wiregrass have now started to seed as a result of the burns. Park staff along with volunteers have been collecting seed from the park for restoration efforts at Bald Point State Park. Biting insects can be an issue any time of the year. When you come to visit us, please come prepared with insect repellent. Please come visit us at Ochlockonee River State Park and enjoy a multitude of recreational opportunities and natural beauty.

Welcome to Ochlockonee River State Park
This jewel of a park is a great place to get away for a weekend or a weeklong vacation. Picnic facilities and a swimming area are located near the scenic point where the Ochlockonee and Dead rivers intersect. Ochlockonee, which means "yellow waters," is a mix of brackish, tidal surge, and fresh water. Pristine and deep, the river empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Trails allow visitors to explore the park and see the diverse wildlife, including the red-cockaded woodpecker, and natural communities such as pine flatwoods and oak thickets. A boat ramp provides easy access to the river. Both freshwater and saltwater fish inhabit the waters around the park, including largemouth bass, bream, catfish and speckled perch. For overnight visitors, there are full-facility campsites with access to restrooms and showers. Youth group camping is also available.
