Welcome to our State Park!

Manager's Message

Improvements are in the works for Letchworth-Love Mounds Archaeological State Park. We aren't changing the main mound at the park which stands 46 feet tall, the highest Indian mound in all of Florida. We are making preparations to improve the parking and restroom facilities. Today you can still view this marvelous man-made mound from afar, or from the ADA-accessible walkway that takes you right to it's base. The Florida Park Service is developing this historic archaeological site, improving this bit of "the Real Florida" for visitors to enjoy. Letchworth-Love Mounds Archaeological State Park is open everyday, from 8:00a.m. until sunset. The park is just 15 miles east of Tallahassee, off U.S. 90 on Sunray Road. Interpretive programs and guided tours are available with two weeks advance notice. Plan to visit our other historic state parks in the Tallahassee area. Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park is two miles north of I-10 just off U.S.27, down Crowder Road to Indian mounds Road. San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park is in St. Marks, south of the city. Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park is seven miles east of Woodville, Florida. Welcome to Letchworth-Love Mounds

Visitors to this archaeological site will see Florida's tallest Native American ceremonial mound-46 feet-built between 1100 and 1800 years ago. The people who built the mound are believed to have been members of the Weedon Island Culture, a group of Native Americans who lived in North Florida between 200 and 800 A.D. The park offers picnicking, birding, and hiking. A nature trail winds around the perimeter of the ceremonial mound. The picnic area and platform viewing area for the mound are wheelchair-accessible. Located 15 miles east of Tallahassee, off U.S. 90 on 4500 Sunray Road South.
