COOLING THE SOUTH BOOK SIGNING

Description: Come chill out with cool stories on how ice transformed the American South. Award-winning author shares her captivating tales about life back when the only cool thing in town was a block of ice--APALACHICOLA – The Department of Environmental Protection’s JohnGorrie Museum State Park is inviting the public to participate in Family. Friends. Fun. Florida State Parks, with a book signing by author Elli Morris. She has written a book titled Cooling the South that entwines the historical transportation and methods of making ice. A 300 pound block of ice will be on display to serve as a reminder of days gone by. She will speak of “the accidental beginnings of manufactured ice, the rise of ice from luxury to necessity, the amazing amount of machinery and power needed to make the big cakes of ice, the variety of businesses that relied on ice in their production and why manufactured ice had been one of the top ten industries in the United States.” Come join us at the John Gorrie State Museum for a family oriented program that is ideal for all age groups.
