- "Our youth group spent this past weekend at Hontoon Island and we were compelled to send praises. We have camped at many sites over the years and must say that this park is as beautiful as they come, and in addition wonderfully maintained. The staff and volunteers were nothing short of incredible. From the time we were greeted by the ferry and assisted to our site, to when we loaded up to go home, we were treated with care and professionalism. This greatly enhanced the wonderful time we had boating, fishing and manatee watching. Their dedication and love for the park is obvious. The Blazing Sun Youth Group."

Sarah and Scott Siemens - Ocala, FL - May 27-30, 06 was best Memorial Day weekend ever I had with friends because we encounter black bears 2 nights row and on Memorial Day morning that my friends & I will never forget this once in life time experience with black bears. The island was perfect for getaway from everything and cheap to rent cabin. True Nature place to chill out without vehicle. Feel like I am on island miles away from city, television, phone, computer, traffic and etc to enjoy the true nature on the island.
Bonnie Padgett - Jacksonville, Florida - All Park personnel were very friendly and offered lots of information. The interpretive center resembled a museum, a very nice display.
Theresa Roman - Orange Park, FL - I HAVE LOVED HONTOON ISLAND SINCE I WAS A SMALL CHILD AND I'M 66 NOW. I WOULD GO THERE QUITE OFTEN WITH MY UNCLE JOSH CONNELL WHO WAS THE RANCH OWNER THAT SOLD THE ISLAND TO THE STATE SO IT COULD BE TRANSFORMED INTO A GREAT STATE PARK. WE WOULD ROW AN OLD WOODED BOAT ACROSS THE RIVER CARRING FEED TO THE ANIMALS. I HAD A LOT OF TIME TO EXPLORE THE ISLAND ON MY TRIPS THERE. YOU NEVER KNEW WHAT KIND OF AN ANIMAL OR REPTILE MIGHT CROSS YOUR PATH. HE HAD A LARGE BRAMA BULL THAT THOUGHT IT WAS HIS RESPONSIBILITY TO RUN US UP A TREE EVERY CHANCE HE GOT. I RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE WITH OR WITHOUT CHILDREN TAKE THE TIME OUT IF YOUR BUSY LIVES AN SPEND SOME QUALITY LESIURE TIME WITH A VISIT TO HONTOON ISLAND STATE PARK.
Richard Warensford - Dover, DE - They should call it PARADISE ISLAND! My family and I had a very very nice time at the Hontoon Island State Park. We enjoyed the peace and tranquility. We especially enjoyed the park because its like viewing nature as it was millions of years ago! We also hiked to the south part of the island, to my privately owned 7.25 acres that front the mighty St Johns River. I still can't under stand why the State of Florida sliced off and sold this 7.25 acre piece of paradise in 1962, but I am sure glad they did, so I may one day build a small solar powered fishing cottage with a private dock on the St Johns River! What a way to spend your golden years, on this paradise island! I'm sure The Park Ranger enjoys his cabin and the wounderful sourounding paradise. At least this year they lowered the taxes! But I still need to pay last years $8,000.00 tax bill! Thank you for allowing me to share my wonderful Hontoon Island experiences.
