Testimonials for Highlands Hammock State Park
- "During my most recent trip to Florida it was suggested by my father that I take a tram tour of the Highlands Hammoock State Park. Being a "Michigan Girl" and a camper I always look for a new adventure. "Ranger Mike" took our group on a wonderful tour that normally lasts one hour, he answered every question, stopped when we asked and pointed out many interesting varieties of plants and wildlife. This took us more than two hours and he stayed even after our return to answer more questions. This was well beyond his call to duty. A beautiful park, a fabulous tour and a really terrific ranger, thanks Mike."

Cherie D. Haueter - Grand Ledge, MI - "This is what a park should look like. This is the most beautiful park I have seen in Florida. We loved the hiking trails, especially the Cypress Swamp Trail. The beautiful bike loop was so relaxing and peaceful. I felt like I was in another world. This is a very well maintained park. I would recommend this park to anyone who loves nature and the unusual indescribable beauty of Florida. It is a great park for the hot summers in Florida because there is so much shade. When it was time to leave this park, I had a feeling of sadness. Sounds crazy but it really moved me. We will definitely be going back again."

Debbie Schwab - Stuart, FL - This was my first camping trip in 10 years and something I've been dying to do with my 4-year-old. Highland's Hammock turned out to be perfect. It was rugged enough to be true camping, but had just the right ammenities to keep the stress low for me and my son. The grounds are beautiful and the staff is exceedingly friendly. I recommend this park for anyone, but especially families with young kids.
Tony Russell - Dania, Fl - Highland's Hammock is one of the best parks in Florida. It's beautiful, the campsites are spacious and easy to get in and out of, the facilities are clean and the nature loop is perfect for bike riding! Last time we were there we saw 3 beautiful doe in the Amphitheater parking area. We sat and watched them for at least 30 minutes - it was great! Highland's Hammock is one of our favorites. You'd never know that you were just off a main highway. When I'm there I feel like I'm off in the wilderness. It's a wonderful palce to go to to relax after a busy week at work. We have been there several times and will be back again - many more times. We love it!
Alyson Nalewaik - Lehigh Acres, FL - I first visited Highlands Hammock State Park in April of 1961. We camped there for the weekend and spent hours walking the catwalks and trails through the beautiful cypress swamps. I was fascinated and intrigued with the beautiful old gigantic live oak trees. Very few people used this park in those days. There was a quaint old stone lodge building which housed a restaurant renouned for their famous key lime pie. I also remember Ms. Carol Beck, the botany expert who worked at the park and knew so much about the plants, trees and birds native to the area. I was a student of herpetology (study of reptiles and amphibians) at the time and felt like I had found "heaven" in Highlands Hammock State Park.
I haven't been back to Highlands Hammock in many years, but I am looking forward to spending a long weekend there in March of this year, 2006. I will let you know how I feel about the changes which have taken place over the years.
Bob Crowder - Stuart, Florida - My husband and I purchased our first travel trailer and set off for an adventure. Since it was Spring Break, most of the camp grounds were occupied. I managed a reservation at this park. Not knowing what to expect, we arrive on a Friday afternoon, with trailer in tow and 3 Toy Fox Terriers (our babies). The weekend was peaceful, restful and fun. We bicycled the park, which is beautiful. Our dogs enjoyed their first camping trip too! This was a beautiful experience and will come back another time.
Kathy Brown - Mulberry, FL - Highlands Hammock was beautiful! I would definetly go back to visit again. The camping sites were beautiful with a canopy of live iak trees high in the air. We took the tram tour and the kids saw many alligators and birds. Ranger Lewis made plenty of stops to keep us informed along the way. As with many of the tours he ran a bit long but nobody minded. Myself and Ranger Lewis we the only two who saw a bobcat. I happened to be standing because we were stopped listening to him and I had two kids on my lap. I looked over my shoulder and saw the bobcat walking down the right tire lane on the dirt road in front of us. Of course as soon I said look he turned into the tall grass. He wasn't running it was just time for him to turn. Definetly a place to return to. Make your reservations well in advance in the winter season! Have a blast!!!!
Ellen Marshall - N. Ft. Myers, Florida - We have been to Highlands Hammock twice. I love the CCC museum and my husband loves the trails. Our favorites are the Cypress Swamp and the Orange Grove. The second time we went, our teenagers came camping with us. The campsite and facilities were great.
