Additional Information for Highlands Hammock State Park
State Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Museum
Come see the history of the "Great Depression", and the how the Civilian Conservation Corps helped to rebuild our great country. View early photos of the park during its construction, and marvel over the many changes since then.
This facility has just recently undergone a $275,000 renovation and now features an interactive experience of the CCC life in Florida. Listen to audio clips of actual CCC men, try on their uniforms, read their mail back home, and learn all about this important time in our nation’s history. Enjoy a DVD presentation of early park construction and CCC life in the video viewing area, or relax in a CCC era arm chair and listen to President Roosevelt’s "Fireside Chat" on the old time radio."

The park still preserves a scenic, virgin hardwood forest. Its boundaries encompass several additional plant communities, including a cypress swamp, pine flatwoods, sand pine scrub, scrubby flatwoods, bayheads and marsh.

District 4’s biology staff continually monitors the biological aspects of our State Parks. Their effort includes scientific reports on flora and fauna found in our area and impacts on the environment from "civilization".
The reports are an excellent source of scientific information for school projects, or more advanced studies.

Once there the reports are listed by year. After selecting the year group the reports are listed by title. Example: Select 1997 Annual Reports. Then select a report (they are titled by park and subject). Example: Highlands Hammock SP –Gopher Tortoise Burrow Survey.

Pets
Pets are allowed in this park's campground and visitor recreation areas. They must be well-behaved and kept on a six-foot, hand-held leash at all times. It is recommended that pets not be walked on portions of boardwalks without double handrails for their safety. Pets must not be left unattended, nor taken into restroom facilities or onto playground equipment. Service animals are welcome in all areas and buildings of the park, as required by law.
