FLORIDA CIVILIAN CONSERVATION CORPS MUSEUM DEDICATED
--Highlands Hammock State Park ceremony honors CCC alumni for building state parks--
A newly-renovated Florida Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Museum at Highlands Hammock State Park was dedicated in a ceremony Saturday, November 1 at the park, which is in Sebring, Fla.
The museum's "re-dedication"; was part of the 2003 National Association of Civilian Conservation Corps Alumni (NACCA) national reunion which celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Depression-era CCC, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and the U.S. Congress to provide conservation-related work to unemployed young men.
Highlands Hammock is one of eight Florida State Parks originally built by CCC members, forming the nucleus of today's award-winning Florida state park system. The entire statewide system of parks includes 157 parks covering more than 600,000 acres. Some 18.2 million persons visited Florida's state parks last year.
