Additional Information for Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park
Plant Life
Gold Head Branch contains ten distinct natural communities. Sandhill comprises the majority of the Park and contains such species as long leaf pine, turkey oak, wire grass and a variety of wild flowers. The other communities are scrub, slope forest, xeric hammock, basin marsh, hydric hammock, seepage slope, sandhill upland lake, seepage stream, and sinkhole lakes.
Wildlife
The state park is home to numerous animal species such as bald eagle, fox, deer, turkey, various snakes, song birds, southeastern kestrel, redcockaded woodpecker as well as other woodpecker species and bobcat.
Resources
The park was developed by the Civilliam Conservation Corps (CCC) and their craftsmanship is still evident today. The men of the CCC constructed nine cabins and numerous other buildings that can be seen throughout the park.
