Answer: Typically the month of October is the best time of the year.
Question: Do I need a reservation to stay in a cabin?
Answer: A reservation is not required for cabins, but it is highly recommended as the cabins fill up quickly on weekends and holidays. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance through Reserve America online or calling 1-866 I CAMP FL (1-866-422-6735) or 1-800-326-3521.
Question: Are there covered picnic shelters?
Answer: Yes, there are eight shelters ranging in capacity of 10 to 100 people. Please contact the park directly for more information or to reserve your pavilion today.
Question: Is fishing permitted in the park?
Answer: Fishing is permitted at Gold Head Branch State Park. Little Lake Johnson has a population of pan fish, catfish and bass. A freshwater fishing license is required.
Question: Are gasoline powered motor boats permitted?
Answer: Motorized boats are not permitted in Little Lake Johnson and the water level of Big Lake Johnson is not of a sufficient level at this time to permit access into the lake.
Question: Are there bicycle trails?
Answer: No, but the park’s three-mile paved drive provides an excellent roadway to bicycle along.
Question: Is there an area I can ride my horse?
Answer: A seven mile trail ride along the sandhills and scrubs takes the horse enthusiast to a picnic area overlooking Big Lake Johnson. This trail is rated intermediate because of the soft sand on the trail. Water is available for horses at the equestrian parking site. Current negative Coggins must be presented at the Ranger Station when registering.
