Manager's Message

Special Notice: Effective February 1, 2009, the park's pet policy has been changed to permit pets in the following areas: main parking area, Coastal Hammock Trail, and additional parking area.

Pets will not be allowed in the fenced playground area, including Pavilion 3 and the covered picnic tables, and on all sand beach areas, including Dynamite Point beach and the ocean beach.

Transporting pets over the beach sand areas is prohibited!

As we roll into the summer months, we prepare for sunny days, warm weather, and the rainy season; which usually consists of afternoon thunderstorms, lightning, and an occasional hurricane. This year’s rainy season has already brought many inches of rain, lots of lightning, and so far, no hurricanes!

Florida’s weather changes very rapidly, and because of this we would like to remind you to be aware of the beach flags. The flagging system is a way of warning the public of potential hazards like lightning, jellyfish, or rip currents. Staying informed of the beach conditions may assist you in having a fun-filled day at the beach.

There have been lots of questions regarding the jetty rocks this year, and to clarify; we do not advise our visitors to climb or walk on the jetty rocks. The jetty was not designed for public access and is not safe to traverse.

The sea turtles are nesting in great numbers! A few Leatherbacks have nested, and the Greens are beginning to nest yet again. We look forward to this season all year-long. Our rangers get an early start every morning to count each of the last night’s crawls.

We have been asking visitors to, please, not put up any staked tents on the beach. This is for the safety of the sea turtle eggs beneath the surface of the sand.

Come out and enjoy Florida State Parks “…the Real Florida.”

Welcome to Fort Pierce Inlet State Park

The shores and coastal waters at this park provide an abundance of recreational opportunities. The breathtakingly beautiful half-mile beach welcomes visitors for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and scuba diving. Beachcombing, picnicking, or just relaxing on the sand are also popular activities. Dynamite Point was once the training site for WWII Navy Frogmen, but is now a haven for birdwatchers. Along the south end of the park, Fort Pierce Inlet is a popular place for anglers to catch their dinners. Jack Island Preserve, located one mile north of the park, has trails for hiking, bicycling, and nature study. At the west end of the Marsh Rabbit Run Trail, visitors can climb an observation tower to get a bird's-eye view of Indian River and the island. A primitive youth/group campground is available on a reservation basis; please call the park. Located four miles east of Fort Pierce, via North Causeway.
