Fort Clinch State Park

 About Fort Clinch State Park

The magenta tops of the Muhly grass sway with the wind in front of the Gateway to the Great Florida Birding Trail at Fort Clinch State Park.

A NOTE FROM THE MANAGER

Benjamin Faure

Beach Campground Boardwalk Closure (through May2014 )The Atlantic Campground Beach Boardwalk will be closed for repairs from October 1st through May 2014. This upgrade will be a significant improvement to the existing boardwalk and we appreciate your patience as park staff improve the visitor services to our park guests. Limited access is provided adjacent to the boardwalk.  Visitors who require ADA access can utilize the fishing pier or main beach boardwalk use areas.

Spring is in the air and the warmer weather is bringing a variety of wildlife back to the park.  Shorebirds and songbirds are plentiful throughout the park.  As a reminder to our guests, please do not disturb the resting shorebirds as they use the park for resting during their migration.  Fishing activity is also increasing as the large red drum, black drum and trout are actively running along the shore.  Flounder will be returning to the shores in May!

This is a great time to hike the parks nature trails, mountain bike the parks multi use trails or take a leisurely stroll along the parks 3 mile drive. Bicycle rentals are available at the Fort Visitor Center.  The Park offers one of the most well preserved maritime hammock communities which provides critical habitat for a diversity of wildlife including White Tailed Deer, Bobcat, Raccoons and other wildlife regularly seen at the park!

Be sure to visit Historic Fort Clinch and the Visitor Center during your visit. If you want to experience one of the best living history interpretive programs, the Fort is manned by Living History Interpreters on a daily basis that provide a valuable glimpse into our nations past during the Civil War. The Visitor Center provides a wide variety of educational material, refreshments, souvenirs, firewood and more! We have recently added restored a Gatling gun on display inside the museum building.

The park has been working hard to increase accessibility and improve services and programs offered at the park. These improvements include new accessible campground restrooms, a new accessible beach access boardwalk and pier boardwalk, new accessible visitor center, interpretive videos of Fort Clinch and more. Please take the time to let us know of any improvements that can be made or even minor modifications that will help you fully enjoy your experience at Fort Clinch State Park.

A number of special events are taking place throughout the Spring & Summer months including Ranger Led Interpretive Programs, Guided Nature Trail Hikes, First weekend Fort Garrisons. Browse the Park Special Events page for a complete listing of our Special Events including the Kids Fishing Clinic which will be held in May.

Come out and see why Fort Clinch is one of the Best Kept Secrets in Northeast Florida! We look forward to seeing you soon!
