Fort Clinch State Park

 About Fort Clinch State Park

The magenta tops of the Muhly grass sway with the wind in front of the Gateway to the Great Florida Birding Trail at Fort Clinch State Park.

Benjamin Faure

Winter is here and the cool weather is the perfect time to get outside and “get a little park on yah”!  Hurry up and make your camping reservations; sit outside by the campfire, roast marshmallows and spend some time with your family and friends in the “Real Florida”!  Both campgrounds have exceptional restroom facilities and both camping areas provide visitors with a variety of camping experiences from shaded sites near the St Mary’s Inlet to open camping adjacent to the beach shoreline!

Great opportunities await for you to hike the parks nature trails, mountain bike the parks multi use trails or take a leisurely stroll along the parks 3 mile drive.  The Park offers one of the most well preserved maritime hammock communities which provides critical habitat for a diversity of wildlife including White Tailed Deer, Bobcat, Raccoons and other wildlife regularly seen at the park!

Be sure to visit Historic Fort Clinch and the Visitor Center during your visit.  The Fort is manned by Living History Interpreters on a daily basis that provide a valuable glimpse into our nations past during the Civil War.  The Visitor Center provides a wide variety of educational material, refreshments, souvenirs, firewood and more!

The park has been working hard to increase accessibility and improve services and programs offered at the park.  These improvements include new accessible campground restrooms, a new accessible beach access boardwalk and pier boardwalk, new accessible visitor center, interpretive videos of Fort Clinch and more.  The park also offers a variety of wheelchairs including beach wheelchairs and a standard wheelchair to access the fort facility.  Please take the time to let us know of any improvements that can be made or even minor modifications that will help you fully enjoy your experience at Fort Clinch State Park.

A number of special events are taking place throughout the Winter including Ranger Led Interpretive Programs, Guided Nature Trail Hikes, First weekend Fort Garrisons. Browse the Park Special Events page for a complete listing of our Special Events.

  • Volunteer -

Fort Clinch has something for everyone. Volunteers restore and maintain the environment and natural resources, guide bird tours, beach walks and nature programs, as well as host living history and interpretive programs. The park also has positions for campground hosts. All sites occupied by camping volunteers are to be maintained by them, from weeding, tidying up, mulching, etc. The occupants of the host sites will be park staff's eyes and ears in the campgrounds. Duties may include cleaning restrooms and campsite areas, answering camper questions and availability in case of an emergency. If any or all of the above mentioned material interests you consider joining the team at Fort Clinch State Park.
