Fort Clinch State Park

 About Fort Clinch State Park

The magenta tops of the Muhly grass sway with the wind in front of the Gateway to the Great Florida Birding Trail at Fort Clinch State Park.

The Beach Campground Boardwalk is now open and is a beautiful ADA accessible walkway from the Beach campground to the St. Mary's inlet.  Special thanks to all of the staff and volunteers who completed this project to increase accessibility to our park visitors!

The summer is here and surf temperatures are perfect for a swim in the Atlantic Ocean and a relaxing day at the beach.  Don't forget to monitor the beach warning flags and wear plenty of sunscreen!

Looking for something cool to drink?  Stop by the visitor center for cold refreshments, ice cream and a wide variety of souvenirs, books and gifts.

As a reminder to our guests, please do not disturb the resting shorebirds as they use the park for resting during their migration.  There are also several young chicks that have recently hatched and are very vulnerable to disturbances.  For these and many other reasons, pets are prohibited on the parks beaches.

Fishing activity is at its best during the next few months!  Flounder, Sheepshead, Red Drum, Whiting and more are being caught from the shore and fishing pier.  A saltwater fishing license is required to fish in the park.

Be sure to visit Historic Fort Clinch and the Visitor Center during your visit. If you want to experience one of the best living history interpretive programs, the Fort is manned by Living History Interpreters on a daily basis that provide a valuable glimpse into our nations past during the Civil War. The Visitor Center provides a wide variety of educational material, refreshments, souvenirs, firewood and more! We have recently added restored a Gatling gun on display inside the museum building.

A number of special events are taking place throughout the Summer months including Ranger Led Interpretive Programs, Guided Nature Trail Hikes, First weekend Fort Garrisons. Browse the Park Special Events page for a complete listing of our Special Events including the Kids Fishing Clinic which will be held in May.

Come out and see why Fort Clinch is one of the Best Kept Secrets in Northeast Florida! We look forward to seeing you soon!

Volunteers restore and maintain the environment and natural resources, guide bird tours, beach walks and nature programs, as well as host living history and interpretive programs. The park also has positions for campground hosts. All sites occupied by camping volunteers are to be maintained by them, from weeding, tidying up, mulching, etc. The occupants of the host sites will be park staff's eyes and ears in the campgrounds. Duties may include cleaning restrooms and campsite areas, answering camper questions and availability in case of an emergency.
