Additional Information for Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve
Plant Life
Both longleaf and slash pines occur within the flatwoods but slash pines predominate in most areas. The scrub is dominated by species such as sand live oak, myrtle oak, and Chapman’s oak, along with rusty lyonia and saw palmetto. The land sustains numerous wild flowers native to the area.
Wildlife
The reserve is home to a variety of wildlife including the Florida Scrub Jay, Southern Bald Eagle, Gopher tortoise, and the Florida mouse.
Resources
The area supports the Florida Scrub Jay and nesting sites have been observed for the Bald Eagle and Osprey. The park consists of 4,988 acres, which contains over 12 miles of trails and two entrances. The entrance on SR 24 offers a small picnic area with a small pavilion, picnic tables and grills. A composting restroom is available.
