Manager's Message
Let us help make your summer great! Outdoor activity is everywhere in Florida State Parks, Big Lagoon State Park included.
Leisure opportunities like swimming, hiking, reading and canoeing are available. Covered shelters and pavilions along the shores of Big Lagoon offer great space for family reunions, picnics or relaxation.
Bring your camping gear and spend a few nights. Campsites can be rented for a nominal fee. Reservations are taken up to eleven months in advance. Limited walk-up camping is available first come first served. Camping’s a great way to spend time with family or friends.
Construction projects you may encounter while visiting should not interfere with your enjoyment of the park but are worth mentioning. The Loop 2 campground restroom is currently being remodeled and will close occasionally during daytime hours. Solar water heaters are planned along with plumbing upgrades. Interior lighting has been replaced and new walkway lights will be installed.
The Amphitheater project continues to move forward. This area
is an active construction site closed to the public. Please stop by the park office or speak with a ranger for updates or questions on this wonderful facility.
Please remember to take advantage of your Gateway site to the Great Florida Birding Trail. If you would like to borrow a pair of binoculars, stop by the Ranger Station and check out a pair. These binoculars are provided by corporate sponsors and the Florida Wildlife Commission to help make your visit more enjoyable.
Make plans for a visit now!

Welcome to Big Lagoon State Park
This coastal park sits on the northern shoreline of its namesake, Big Lagoon, which separates the mainland from Perdido Key and the Gulf of Mexico. Natural communities, ranging from saltwater marshes to pine flatwoods, attract a wide variety of birds, especially during the spring and fall migrations. Beaches, shallow bays, nature trails, and open woodlands offer splendid opportunities for nature study. The park also beckons visitors with opportunities for camping, swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, and hiking. Crabbing in the shallow waters of Big Lagoon is a popular activity as well. The West Beach picnic area, shaded by pines and oaks, is just the place to enjoy a relaxing meal. Located on County Road 292A, 10 miles southwest of Pensacola.
