Manager's Message
If you’ve been watching the weather hoping for some temperature relief, you’re in luck. The fall weather has arrived! Camping should be first priority on your outdoor adventure list. Make plans now for a great overnight getaway from those daily chores. A camping reservation is only a mouse click away. Utilize the link provided on our web page or call 1-800-326-3521.
The butterflies have begun their annual migration and the fall flowers that provide needed nourishment for their long journey have not disappointed this season. The park is full of brilliant yellows, purples and reds with showy whites soon enough in full bloom. Give the coastal vegetation of the area a chance to amaze with a visit soon.
Take advantage of the Gateway to the Great Florida Birding Trail here at Big Lagoon. Migrating birds are now passing through. If you would like to borrow a pair of binoculars, stop by the Ranger Station and check out a pair. These binoculars are provided by corporate sponsors and the Florida Wildlife Commission to help make your visit more enjoyable.
Construction projects you may encounter while visiting should not interfere with your enjoyment of the park but are worth mentioning. The Loop 2 campground restroom is currently being remodeled and may close occasionally during daytime hours. Solar water heaters are planned along with plumbing upgrades. Interior lighting has been replaced and new walkway lights are installed.
The Amphitheater construction project continues to move forward. This area is an active construction site closed to the public. Please stop by the park office or speak with a ranger for updates or questions on this wonderful facility.
Make plans for a visit now! If you are not able to camp with us overnight, bring the family out for a picnic at one of our shelters and wander the trails for the day. The fall colors are spectacular.

Welcome to Big Lagoon State Park
This coastal park sits on the northern shoreline of its namesake, Big Lagoon, which separates the mainland from Perdido Key and the Gulf of Mexico. Natural communities, ranging from saltwater marshes to pine flatwoods, attract a wide variety of birds, especially during the spring and fall migrations. Beaches, shallow bays, nature trails, and open woodlands offer splendid opportunities for nature study. The park also beckons visitors with opportunities for camping, swimming, fishing, boating, canoeing, and hiking. Crabbing in the shallow waters of Big Lagoon is a popular activity as well. The West Beach picnic area, shaded by pines and oaks, is just the place to enjoy a relaxing meal. Located on County Road 292A, 10 miles southwest of Pensacola.
