Exclamation point.Park Alerts for Lovers Key State Park

We anticipate beginning our beach nourishment project sometime this week; the beginning of October 2014. The majority of the beach will remain open during the project with only sections closed off temporarily as the sand is placed.  However you will still be able to walk behind the project area as it progresses.  We ask that for your safety you do not walk into the project area or near the pipe pumping sand onto the beach.

The project will place sand on 1.1 miles of beach from the south beach to the mid-section of the beach. Gazebo rentals will be impacted but still available during the project.  The area behind the gazebo will be used as a staging site for equipment. The project is expected to be complete by the end of November. We apologize for any inconvenience. Please call the park office if you have any questions at 239-463-4588.

Welcome to Lovers Key State Park

For years, Lovers Key was accessible only by boat and it was said that only lovers traveled to the island to enjoy its remote and solitary beach. Today, it is one of four barrier islands that make up this state park. A haven for wildlife, the islands and their waters are home to West Indian manatees, bottlenose dolphins, roseate spoonbills, marsh rabbits, and bald eagles. The two mile long beach is accessible by boardwalk or tram and is popular for shelling, swimming, picnicking, and sunbathing. Black Island has over five miles of multiuse trails for hiking and bicycling. Anglers and boaters can launch their vessels from the park's boat ramp. The park's concession offers kayak tours, as well as bicycle, canoe and kayak rentals. For tour reservations and rentals of bicycles, canoes and kayaks, call (239) 765-7788. Located on County Road 865 between Fort Myers Beach and Bonita Beach in Lee County.
