- GUIDED OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP
Lake Kissimmee State Park
Date: November 21, 2009, 1:00 p.m. - ?
Description: Join a Park Ranger for a 7 mile round-trip primitive overnight backpacking excursion through several of the diverse plant and animal communities that make up the park. The trip begins Saturday afternoon, hiking approx. 3.5 miles to one of the park's primitive campsites. Sunday's return hike will is also approx. 3.5 miles, ending in the early afternoon. Please contat the park for a list of suggested equipment.
Reservations are required, and can be made by calling the Ranger Station at (863) 696-1112.

- HOLIDAY TEA PARTY
Washington Oaks Gardens State Park

Description: Parents mark your calendar for the “Holiday Tea Party” hosted by Mrs. Claus. The tea party will be offered to boys and girls ages 5-8 years old and will be held Saturday, December 5th at the Visitors’ Center. Mrs. Claus will welcome children at two different seating times of 10:00 am and 1:30 pm. Children should dig through Mom and Dad’s closet and come to the party dressed in their best attire which could include old jewelry, ties, and garden hats. Also, children can bring along their favorite stuffed animal to join in at the tea party festivities. Some of the activities will include sharing a Christmas wish list session with Mrs. Claus, storytelling featuring “The Reindeer Christmas,” a souvenir photograph with Mrs. Claus, Holiday storytelling and of course tea and cookies. Also, Mrs. Claus will present each child with a Christmas stocking filled with holiday goodies to take home. The tea party fee is $20.00 per child and includes souvenir photograph with Mrs. Claus, refreshments, holiday stocking and the park entrance fee. - JACK'S 50K/25K TRAIL RACE
Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach
Date: December 5, 2009, 8:00 a.m.
Description: Jack's 50K Trail Race and 25K Trail Race is a challenging course following 20 (10 for 25K) repeat 1.5 mile loops on the Joe Kenner Trail in Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area, alongside the Intracoastal Waterway. Each loop will consist of mostly a wide and shady dirt trail, but will also consist of some sand, single track, and pavement. There will be a 4:00 p.m. cut off. Awards: Shirts and finisher awards to all entrants. Special handcrafted trophies for Overall Male/Female and Overall Masters Male/Female for both 50K and 25K races. Online Registration and additional information can be found at Jacks50K.
No Refunds or Transfers. LIMITED to 75 runners. All runners will receive a t-shirt, finishers award and a great race packet. Checks payable to: Dawn Lisenby.
NEW THIS YEAR!! Kids Races: Ages 3 to 6 can participant in a .25 mile race and Ages 7to 12 can participate in a .50 mile race. These races are free. Kids races will start prior to 25k Award Ceremony at approximately 11:30 am. All finishers in kid’s races will receive participation ribbon.

From Daytona: Take A1A north to approximately 1 mile north of the Flagler/Volusia County line (approximately 18 miles)The Ranger Station will be located on the drive to your left and our day use beach facilities will be to your right.
From Ormond Beach: Take West Granada (40) east, across the Halifax River, to A1A. Turn left (north) on A1A and travel approximately 11 miles (1 mile north of the Flagler/Volusia County line). The Ranger Station will be located on the drive to your left and our day use beach facilities will be to your right.
From Palm Coast: Take Palm Coast Parkway east across the Intercoastal Waterway (toll bridge) to A1A. Turn left (south) on A1A and travel approximately 11 miles. The park is located on A1A. The Ranger Station will be on the drive to your right and our day use beach facilities will be to your left.
Avoid the toll: Take Palm Coast parkway east to Colbert Lane. Turn right (south) on Colbert Lane and travel approximately 7 miles to SR 100. Turn left (east) on SR 100 and travel approximately 1.5 miles to A1A. Turn right on A1A and travel about 3 miles. The Ranger Station will be located on the drive to your right and our day use beach facilities will be to your left.
From St. Augustine: Take A1A south for approximately 32 miles to SR 100. Continue straight through the light and travel approximately another 3 miles to the park. The Ranger Station will be located on the drive on your right and our day use beach facilities will be located on your left.

Description: Come meet the birds at Fort Mose State Historic Park. Led by a park volunteer, this fun, informative walk is open to the public and to birders of all levels. Description: “Santa’s Garden Celebration”. Children may share their holiday wish list with Santa and Mrs. Claus in the Gardens. For a nominal charge, the Friends of Washington Oaks will offer a souvenir photo with the Claus’s. “Santa’s Playground” will include activities for children suc ad hand’s on arts and crafts and game section. Starbucks Coffee will be giving out complementary hot chocolates and peppermint white hot chocolates; pizza by the slice will also be available for purchase This year we will be having a Gingerbread house contest for all ages! Your Gingerbread house will need to be dropped off at the park between the hours of 8:00am and 9:30am on December the 12th, and remain on display until 4pm. Prizes will be given including a “Mrs. Claus’s Choice” award. Description: Join a Park Ranger on a leisurely 6.7 mile long guided horseback trail ride around Buster Island. The ride will take approx. 2 hours to complete. LAKE KISSIMMEE STATE PARK DOES NOT HAVE HORSES AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC USE. Participants must bring their own horses. Proof of a negative Coggins Test must be shown at the Ranger Station for every horse entering the park. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling the Ranger Station at (863) 696-1112.

- FISHING WITH SANTA
Colt Creek State Park
Date: December 19, 2009, 10a.m.-2p.m.
Description: We have invited Santa out to the park for a little bit of rest and relaxation before the big day. Join him and wet a line to see what you might catch from Mac Lake. This event is free with paid park admission of $3.00 per vehicle. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will have their fishing trailer on site and will provide poles, bait and tackle free of charge. Children ages 15 and under do not have to have a fishing license. Short tram tours of the park will also be offered. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for sale during the event. This event is co-sponsored by Crew 774 of Lakeland.

Participation Requirements
Directions:
The park is located 16 miles north of Lakeland just south of the Withlacoochee River off of State Road 471. From I-4 take exit # 32 and proceed north on US 98 approximately 13 miles, turn right onto State Road 471. From I-75 take exit # 301 and proceed east on State Road 50 for approximately 13 miles, turn right onto State Road 471. The entrance to the park is 3.8 miles north of US 98 and 17 miles south of State Road 50.

- CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT
De Leon Springs State Park
Date: January 9-10, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Description: Union troops raided the spring in 1864. see a typical encampment of the period, how the soldiers drilled,slept prepared their meals, etc.walk the trails once patrolled by union soldiers.

Directions: Take US Hwy 17 North from Deland for approximately six miles, following the State Park signs. Turn left onto Ponce DeLeon Blvd and you will travel approximately one mile to the entrance to DeLeon Springs State Park.

- GUIDED OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP
Lake Kissimmee State Park
Date: January 16, 2010, 1:00 p.m. - ?
Description: Join a Park Ranger for a 7 mile round-trip primitive overnight backpacking excursion through several of the diverse plant and animal communities that make up the park. The trip begins Saturday afternoon, hiking approx. 3.5 miles to one of the park's primitive campsites. Sunday's return hike will is also approx. 3.5 miles, ending in the early afternoon. Please contat the park for a list of suggested equipment.
Reservations are required, and can be made by calling the Ranger Station at (863) 696-1112.
Fees: $10.00 + tax per person

- NIGHT SOUNDS AT SEBASTIAN INLET CONCERT SERIES

Description: The Night Sounds at Sebastian Inlet State Park Concert Series showcases recording artists, Christine Stay and Aidan Quinn, known as Friction Farm. Friction Farm's music is a mix of country, folk and pop blended into a seamless package. This modern folk duo is living in New York and has been entertaining crowds and receiving great reveiws. The concert will be at the pavilion on Coconut Point, located on the south side of Sebastian Inlet, over looking the water.

Lake Kissimmee State Park

Description: Join a Park Ranger on a leisurely 6.7 mile long guided horseback trail ride around Buster Island. The ride will take approx. 2 hours to complete. LAKE KISSIMMEE STATE PARK DOES NOT HAVE HORSES AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC USE. Participants must bring their own horses. Proof of a negative Coggins Test must be shown at the Ranger Station for every horse entering the park. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling the Ranger Station at (863) 696-1112.
Fees: $7.00 + tax per individual, $14.00 + tax for 2 or more.

- FLIGHT TO FREEDOM
Fort Mose Historical State Park
Date: February 27, 2010, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Description: First person interpreters tell and re-enact the saga of the first underground railroad. Escaping slaves, hostile slave catchers, friendly indians, and militiamen bring to life the story of African Americans fleeing slavery in the English colonies to seek freedom in Spanish Florida. In addition, there will be drumming, story telling and Colonial weapon demonstrations. Free trolley shuttle service from the 'Old Jail' located at 167 San Marco Avenue.

A “Get R.E.A.L. in Florida State Parks!” Event
Directions: From St. Augustine: From downtown St. Augustine, drive north on A1A. At the carousel (you read it correctly), continue straight north on San Marco. (A1A turns right towards Vilano Beach. Don't go that way.) San Marco merges with Hwy 1. Shortly after the merge, look for a bronze statue on the right and a sign for Fort Mose. Turn right on Fort Mose Trail. Fort Mose Trail dead ends into Fort Mose picnic area and parking lot.
OR: From Hwy 1 in St. Augustine, drive north past Hwy 16. Look for a bronze statue on the right and a sign for Fort Mose. Turn right on Fort Mose Trail. Fort Mose Trail dead ends into Fort Mose picnic area and parking lot.

- SURF FEST 2010 SURF CONTESTS
Sebastian Inlet State Park
Date: March 5 to 14, 2010 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Description: The Surf Fest will be three surf contests. The first ever Surfing America Prime series event to be held in Florida, a Grade 5 Junior Pro (the biggest in North America and Europe). This will be a two-day event. The Collegiate Surfing Association will hold Florida State and East Coast Championships, which will include about 15 colleges and universities battling for the East Coast title. This will be a two day event. The U.S. Masters Professional Championship; an invitational event that will feature America’s best and most iconic surfers age 40 and over.
