Directions: Waccasassa Bay State Preserve extends along the coast between Cedar Key and Yankeetown. Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park is only accessible by boat. Boats can be launched from several ramps located outside the preserve. Boat access is from CR 40 in Yankeetown, CR 326 in Gulf Hammock, and Cedar Key.

Highlands Hammock State Park

- CHRISTMAS AT THE ORMAN HOUSE
Orman House State Park

Description: The Department of Environmental Protection’s Orman House Historic State Park will be open to the public the evening of Friday, November 27, 2009 celebrating the holiday season. The house will be decorated to represent Christmas during the time the Orman family occupied the residence, 1838 to 1952.
Fees: Entrance fees will be waived to participants. A $5.00 donation to the Friends of Franklin County State Parks is requested.

Little Talbot Island State Park

Description: Thanksgiving is a time for family gatherings and reflection on the things we are all thankful for. Join the Talbot Islands State Parks family as we host a program filled with music and storytelling. All registered campers are encouraged to bring their instrument of choice and their favorite stories to share as we enjoy the warm glow of a campfire. The program lasts approximately 2 hours and you must be a registered camper to participate. No reservations are necessary and the program is free with campsite registration.

Manatee Springs State Park

Description:A Living History of Manatee Springs
To celebrate the living history of this beautiful first magnitude spring, Manatee Springs State Park, with the help of the park’s Citizens Support Organization-The Friends of Manatee Springs Parks, Inc, present Clay Landing Days featuring covered wagon rides through the north trail system, where riders will find people from the past. The event also includes hay rides as well to provide more opportunities to visit our Seminoles and settlers. The hay ride is accessible to persons with disabilities with little or no assistance, including wheelchairs. Come join us on a fun ride and a journey into the past, where you will witness survival skills used by Native Americans and pioneers alike. Learn how they lived, what clothing they wore, how food was prepared over campfires and, if you master communication with them, you may even get to sample tasty morsels!

Rock Springs Run State Reserve

Description: Burn off the turkey you just ate in the final Pangea adventure race in 2009! Paddle on the Wekiva River and bike and trek in the natural beauty of Rock Springs Run State Reserve. Participants invited to a celebration of Old Time music
Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park is now accepting registration for the Suwannee Old Time Music Weekend on December 4-6, 2009.
This three day event offers participants in-depth instruction in old time music techniques on the banjo, guitar, fiddle and voice for beginning, intermediate and advanced students. Join this year’s special guest instructors and nationally known performers, Mac Traynham, Shay Garriock, and, Jenny Traynham.
Concerts will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings in the park auditorium at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for public admission are $10.00. Friday evening is the Florida Masters Concert featuring Tom and Kay Van Treese, Gail Gillespie and Dwight Rogers. Saturday evening will feature an Instructor’s Showcase Concert with Florida favorites, Chuck Levy, Lloyd Baldwin, Greg Allen and Chuck Anton.
Admission to the three-day event is just $225.00, which includes all workshops, jam sessions, discussion groups, concerts and meals. A spouse program is being offered for just $85.00. Registration is now open and forms are available at Suwannee Old Time Music Weekend Registration. After November 20, there is a $15.00 late registration fee.

Description: As the holidays are approaching, we would like to invite everyone to join us for our annual event ‘A Lignumvitae Key Christmas’ on Dec. 5 & 6. The historic Matheson House will be decorated for the holidays in an early 1900s ambiance of the Florida Keys. Visitors will be able to see how caretakers of the past would have adorned the walls of their island abode. They will also be able to sample homemade cookies, cakes & refreshments. Boats will be leaving Robbie’s Marina, located at Mile Marker 77.5, bayside, every hour on the hour. - JACK'S 50K/25K TRAIL RACE
Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach
Date: December 5, 2009, 8:00 a.m.
Description: Jack's 50K Trail Race and 25K Trail Race is a challenging course following 20 (10 for 25K) repeat 1.5 mile loops on the Joe Kenner Trail in Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area, alongside the Intracoastal Waterway. Each loop will consist of mostly a wide and shady dirt trail, but will also consist of some sand, single track, and pavement. There will be a 4:00 p.m. cut off. Awards: Shirts and finisher awards to all entrants. Special handcrafted trophies for Overall Male/Female and Overall Masters Male/Female for both 50K and 25K races. From Palm Coast: Take Palm Coast Parkway east across the Intercoastal Waterway (toll bridge) to A1A. Turn left (south) on A1A and travel approximately 11 miles. The park is located on A1A. The Ranger Station will be on the drive to your right and our day use beach facilities will be to your left.
Avoid the toll: Take Palm Coast parkway east to Colbert Lane. Turn right (south) on Colbert Lane and travel approximately 7 miles to SR 100. Turn left (east) on SR 100 and travel approximately 1.5 miles to A1A. Turn right on A1A and travel about 3 miles. The Ranger Station will be located on the drive to your right and our day use beach facilities will be to your left.
From St. Augustine: Take A1A south for approximately 32 miles to SR 100. Continue straight through the light and travel approximately another 3 miles to the park. The Ranger Station will be located on the drive on your right and our day use beach facilities will be located on your left.

- SUGAR CANE GRINDINGS
Dudley Farm Historic State Park
Date: Saturday, December 5, 2009. 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Description: This is the annual Cane Grinding and commemoration of Miss Myrtle Dudley's birthday. This event continues the farm family tradition of grinding sugar cane and boiling cane syrup, making this a unique old-time community gathering. Visitors can tour the farm and see other traditional activities and craft demonstrations or enjoy a wagon ride. Syrup and farm products are sold on this day.

- UNION HOLIDAY ENCAMPMENT
Fort Clinch State Park
Date: Saturday, December 5th, 2009. 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sunday, December 6th, 2009. 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Description: Living historians recreate life at Fort Clinch during the War Between the States. Activities may include black powder artillery demonstrations and marching drills, as well as soldiers and civilians taking up duty in the laundry, infirmary and kitchen.

Description: Ring in the holiday season by visiting the Ybor City Museum State Park for Santa Fest 2009. Although many activities will be ongoing throughout the district, the museum garden will be hosting Santa himself, live music and games. Sponsored by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department, this community event includes $0.25 street car rides, giant snow slide, Tampa Bay Rays batting cage, and much more. Washington Oaks Gardens State Park

Description: Parents mark your calendar for the “Holiday Tea Party” hosted by Mrs. Claus. The tea party will be offered to boys and girls ages 5-8 years old and will be held Saturday, December 5th at the Visitors’ Center. Mrs. Claus will welcome children at two different seating times of 10:00 am and 1:30 pm. Children should dig through Mom and Dad’s closet and come to the party dressed in their best attire which could include old jewelry, ties, and garden hats. Also, children can bring along their favorite stuffed animal to join in at the tea party festivities. Some of the activities will include sharing a Christmas wish list session with Mrs. Claus, storytelling featuring “The Reindeer Christmas,” a souvenir photograph with Mrs. Claus, Holiday storytelling and of course tea and cookies. Also, Mrs. Claus will present each child with a Christmas stocking filled with holiday goodies to take home. The tea party fee is $20.00 per child and includes souvenir photograph with Mrs. Claus, refreshments, holiday stocking and the park entrance fee. - CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park
Date: December 12 - 31, 2009, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Description: In conjunction with the Town of White Springs, the park will have a full day celebration on Saturday December 12th to kickoff the beginning of the Festival of Lights. The day’s activities will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a breakfast hosted by Santa Claus. Tickets for the breakfast are available from White Springs Town Hall or the White Springs Library. The park’s Craft Square & Gift Shop will be open from 9:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. A children’s ornament-making workshop will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the State of Florida’s Nature & Heritage Tourism Center. The Town of White Springs’ Christmas Parade begins at 5:30 p.m. culminating inside Stephen Foster State Folk Culture Center State Park where hot dogs & cookies are offered free of charge, an evening concert is held inside the park’s carillon tower & a bonfire & marshmallow roast will be held at the gift shop & craft square.
Regular admission fee is waived for the festivities at the park on December 12th, but a donation of canned goods or a new toy is requested. The Festival of Lights is sponsored by the Town of White Springs and its Special Events Committee, the Stephen Foster Citizens Support Organization & numerous local individuals and businesses.
The Park Lights will be on display each evening until 9:00 p.m. through December 31st. Visitors can enjoy the holiday sights & sounds as they drive through the park to see the unique & original holiday light displays including the majestic oak trees adorned with thousands of lights, the antebellum museum dressed in full holiday splendor, gingerbread village located at the gift shop & craft square. Entrance Fees for the evening event between December 13th & 31st are $2:00 per person.

Description: The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Florida Division, the Gamble Plantation Preservation Alliance and the Florida Park Service proudly announce the Plantation Christmas Open House at Gamble Plantation Historic State Park in Ellenton, Florida.
Once again you can travel back to the Old South during the day through the many lifestyle demonstrations of that time period. Gamble Mansion and the Patten House will be lavishly decorated in the Christmas spirit, allowing you a special look at a 19th century Christmas. The Ladies of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will be wearing costumes reminiscent of the era of the 1840’s through 1870’s to add that special touch of authenticity to the day. The 4th Florida Volunteer Infantry will be dressed in military uniforms re-enacting a Confederate encampment. There will be music, crafts and fun for everyone.

Description: We have invited Santa out to the park for a little bit of rest and relaxation before the big day. Join him and wet a line to see what you might catch from Mac Lake. This event is free with paid park admission of $3.00 per vehicle. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will have their fishing trailer on site and will provide poles, bait and tackle free of charge. Children ages 15 and under do not have to have a fishing license. Short tram tours of the park will also be offered. Hot dogs, chips and drinks will be available for sale during the event. Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park will host the Swingin on the Suwannee, West Coast Swing Dance on Saturday December 19, 2009. This event invites participants to a day of “introduction to the dance”, workshops and a social dance in the evening.
Swingin on the Suwannee is a social gathering of west coast swing dancers from throughout the region. Centrally located to many surrounding cities such as Jacksonville, Gainesville/Ocala, Tallahassee, Valdosta and Tampa; Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park provides the perfect venue for such an event.The event will offer two workshops in the afternoon to introduce newcomers to the enjoyment of West Coast Swing. An Introduction to West Coast Swing workshop will be held between 3:00-4:00 p.m. and a Two Step Movement Workshop will be held between 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. Workshops are $5.00 per person per class. The workshops will be followed by a dinner hour where many participants will head to the Historic Telford Hotel for a great time of sharing and food.
The main dance will start at 7:30 P.M. Expect an evening of dancing, dancing and more dancing! Country, latin and ballroom selections will also be mixed with swing music. Evening dance admission fees are $10.00 per person. Couples who wish to participate in both workshops and the dance will receive a discounted rate of $25.00 for the entire day. - GUIDED OVERNIGHT BACKPACKING TRIP
Lake Kissimmee State Park

Description: Join a Park Ranger for a 7 mile round-trip primitive overnight backpacking excursion through several of the diverse plant and animal communities that make up the park. The trip begins Saturday afternoon, hiking approx. 3.5 miles to one of the park's primitive campsites. Sunday's return hike will is also approx. 3.5 miles, ending in the early afternoon. - 2010 CARRIAGE MOBSTACLE
Alafia River State Park
Date: January 17, 2010. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. Last Carriage Out – 10:30 a.m.
Description: This horse and carriage event consists of man made and natural obstacles, testing your ability to correctly navigate a mapped course while communicating with your animal. The leisure paced course is timed but it is not a race. Drivers coming closest to the Secret Time are the winners. Prizes will be awarded. Drivers will be able to select course length - short pleasure drive - 3 to 4 miles or a longer pleasure drive of 7 to 9 miles. The grassy trails are ideal for all types of vehicles and provided good footing for any size equine. Outriders are welcome to ride along with the carriages, but prizes will be limited to horse and cart participants. Participants must supply their own horse and have proof of a current negative coggins test. Description: Learn to capture the best wildlife shots, land and seascapes, and make even plant photos exciting! Joe Moran, an instructor with the Fort Myers Camera Club, and a nature photographer for 30 years, will lead the workshop. The workshop will include a traverse through Lovers Key State Park to explore some of the most photogenic areas of Southwest Florida’s natural coastline and photograph the wildlife that Lovers Key is known for. Participants should bring their own digital camera, camera manuals, hat, sunscreen and bug spray. Limited to 15 participants.

This will be the 146th anniversary of the actual event that took place in the Point Washington area during the Civil War in 1864 between the 7th Vermont Volunteers and a Confederate unit. Visitors can expect to observe Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics as well as Artillery Demonstrations, Drills and Skirmishes. There will also be Medical Demonstrations, a Ladies Tea and examples of Period Camp Life as well as a period Cook Tent and a Blacksmith. For an event schedule please call the park office.

- OLUSTEE BATTLE REENACTMENT
Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park
Date: Friday through Sunday, February 12 through February 14, 2010. Saturday’s battle begins at 3:30 p.m. and Sunday’s battle is at 1:30 p.m.
Description: The Battle of Olustee was fought on February 20, 1864. Full-scale artillery, mounted cavalry, and three African American regiments, including the 54th Massachusetts took part in the fighting that day. The Battle of Olustee was Florida’s largest Civil War battle, resulting in 2,807 casualties and a Confederate victory. More than 2,000 living history reenactors gather each year at Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park to present historically accurate portrayals of the war’s toll on both civilian and military life. Medical demonstrations are planned twice daily on Saturday and Sunday. Period music concerts, military camps and drills, and the lives of both soldiers and civilians during the war are portrayed by reenactors. The living history weekend features a Civil War-era battle reenactment on Saturday, as well as the reenactment of the Battle of Olustee on Sunday. Food concessions will be available. Pets are not allowed at Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park during the reenactment.
Educational programs are planned for Friday’s School Day when both public and private school students are invited to attend the reenactment. School groups may contact the park at 386-397-7009 to register for the event.

Ochlockonee River State Park

Description: The Department of Environmental Protection’s Ochlockonee River State Park is hosting the Third Annual Stone Age and Primitive Arts Festival. Visitors will experience “hands-on” learning as experts demonstrate techniques used thousands of years ago in day to day life. Visitors will also see projectile point fashioning, also known as flint-knapping, which is the art of chipping stone into tools, bow and arrow construction, basket weaving and early pottery methods. According to archeological research, Ochlockonee River’s rich history of humans interacting with nature goes back 12,000 years.

Description: The Surf Fest will be three surf contests. The first ever Surfing America Prime series event to be held in Florida, a Grade 5 Junior Pro (the biggest in North America and Europe). This will be a two-day event. The Collegiate Surfing Association will hold Florida State and East Coast Championships, which will include about 15 colleges and universities battling for the East Coast title. This will be a two day event. The U.S. Masters Professional Championship; an invitational event that will feature America’s best and most iconic surfers age 40 and over. Description: The Department of Environmental Protection’s Wakulla Springs State Park will be the hub of activities designed to educate, inspire and empower positive change by connecting individuals with their environment and heritage. Fine art, music, living history demonstrations, informative presenters and exhibitors, dynamic educational shows and guided tours will seek to connect participants with the natural and cultural heritage of the region. Guided tours are available at a cost; advance registration is highly recommended since tours often fill to capacity well in advance of Festival dates. The 2010 Festival will highlight the 75th anniversary of the Florida Park Service.

Description: Join a Park Ranger for a 7 mile round-trip primitive overnight backpacking excursion through several of the diverse plant and animal communities that make up the park. The trip begins Saturday afternoon, hiking approx. 3.5 miles to one of the park's primitive campsites. Sunday's return hike will is also approx. 3.5 miles, ending in the early afternoon. Description: The first annual Trail of Payne 10k at Paynes Prarie Preserve State Park is a pure trail race you won't want to miss! OLeno State Park

Description: The Friends of O’Leno will be hosting the third annual O’Leno Ole’ Chili Cook-Off on March 27, 2010, at O’Leno State Park. This year there will be two categories for the cook-off. A Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc. (CASI) sanctioned chili cook-off, open to all members of CASI and anyone wishing to enter under CASI rules. Contestants must be 18 years old or older. Rules can be found at Chili Appreciation Society International, Inc.. Trophy’s will be awarded to the 1st – 10th place winners in the cook-off and 1st – 3rd place winner of the showmanship competition. Turn in time for the chili in the CASI division is 1:00 p.m.
A second category has been added open to anyone wishing to enter a great pot of chili! All ages welcome. Trophy’s will be awarded for the 1st – 5th place winners in the open competition. Turn in time for the chili in the open division is 1:30 p.m.
Registration is from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m., with an entry fee of $20.00 per team for both the CASI and open divisions. A complementary breakfast will be provided for all contestants from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Pre-registration is encouraged, and will begin on March 1, 2010. Forms are available by contacting the Friends of O’Leno at Friends of O’Leno or by calling Harriet Walsh at 386-454-4806.
Spectators may purchase sampling kits and vote for the “Peoples Choice Award”. One award will be presented to the overall winner of both the CASI and open division.

Description: The Night Sounds at Sebastian Inlet State Park Concert Series showcases recording artist Tracy Sands. Tracy Sands was born in a small village in County Down, Ireland. The concert will be at the palvillion on Coconut Point, located on the south side of Sebastian Inlet, over looking the water.

Alafia River State Park

Description: Comprised of two adventure races: one for the dire hard adventure racer and one for the weekend warrior. In addition, we also have a nature walk. The top three money raisers get the honor of wearing the yellow jersey the day of the event. Food, music, and fun to follow after the event.
ECHO, the Emergency Care Help Organization, provides food and clothing to residents of Eastern Hillsborough County that have experienced a recent emergency. Established in 1987, ECHO has served over 100,000 individuals.

Description: The Department of Environmental Protection’s Eden Gardens State Park and the Friends of Eden Gardens would like to invite everyone to Easter at Eden. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch. The Easter Bunny will be arriving at 1:00 p.m. and Egg Hunts will be open to children at 1:30 p.m. Volunteers to help with the egg hunt are always appreciated. The Friends of Eden will be helping to hide the eggs for the children as well as selling refreshments. Parking inside the park is some what limited. Directions: From I-75, exit at the second Ocala exit onto State Road 40. Take State Road 40, west. Drive until it dead-ends at U.S. 41. Turn left, the park entrance is on the left-hand side of the road. From Tampa, take U.S. 41, north. Drive through the town of Dunnellon. The Headsprings Entrance is located on the right-hand side of the road, approximately 2.5 miles north of Dunnellon. From areas in the northwest, take U.S. 41 to the town of Williston. After passing through Williston, you will come to a traffic light where State Road 40 has come to a dead-end. Go through this light; the Headsprings Entrance is on the left-hand side of the road. The Campground Entrance is separate from the headsprings day use area and is located 2.5 miles north of C.R. 484 off of S.W. 180th Avenue Road or 2.5 miles south of Highway 40 off of S.W. 180th Avenue Road.

- 15TH ANNUAL EARTH DAY CELEBRATION
Bahia Honda State Park
Date: April 10, 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Description: Bahia Honda State Park will be holding its 15th Annual Earth Day Celebration on April 10, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There will be live music provided by local musicians. The local Moose Lodge, from Big Pine Key, will be cooking up some wonderful hot dogs, sloppy Joes and fixin’s for the event. Admission to the park is free (come early, parking is limited).
Activities will include: face painting, a puppet show, fish printing and a sand sculpture contest.
The Save-a-Turtle organization will co-host the event, and have several activities and displays. They will also be selling raffle tickets to raise money for sea turtle research. There will be environmental exhibits and booths, marine life touch tanks and children’s activities. The Florida Keys Astronomy Club will set up telescopes with a special lens for viewing the sun. Description: Join a Park Ranger on a leisurely 6.7 mile long guided horseback trail ride around Buster Island. The ride will take approx. 2 hours to complete. LAKE KISSIMMEE STATE PARK DOES NOT HAVE HORSES AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC USE. Participants must bring their own horses. Proof of a negative Coggins Test must be shown at the Ranger Station for every horse entering the park. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling the Ranger Station at (863) 696-1112.

Join Park Staff and Volunteers to listen to local music with an important environmental message during Music on the Grounds, an open mic and coffee house event on April 17th after sunset! For National Environmental Education Week experts will be on hand during the event to answer questions, distribute information, and speak briefly on environmental issues. Dade Battlefield Historic State Park
Date: First Saturday in August - each year.
Description: World War II Day is held on the first Saturday in August each year. This event recognizes our veterans and thanks them for their service to our country. The program features numerous displays of vintage military vehicles, equipment, and weapons from all of the various countries involved in World War II and some of the more modern wars up through Viet Nam. There are also reenactors from Rosy the Riveter to the Royal Air Force. Also, the Bushnell USO Canteen will be open.
